Chris McEvoy
Research
Chis McEvoy’s works are his representation of his internal conflict between two worlds. Interior and exterior. He tries to twist different states by combining mental images to make a reality that portrays a unified deterioration. He had an ample amount of teaching experience with art and has been exhibited in various museums. He is currently working as an assistant professor at SUNY Oswego’s Studio Art Program.
Response
Chris McEvoy’s artworks are amazing. I really love them, but his type of painting isn’t something that I think I would be able to be able to do. I like his work to an extent, and I can see how it pops out from the background. In a few of his paintings the background takes place in an urban setting. For example, a subway train or a trash yard. Those ones in particular are my favorites. I like to see the unusual happen in an ordinary environment. Another very appealing aspect of his work is Chris’ color schemes. He mostly uses dark and light contrasting colors to make up his paintings. His work is unique and as a person who isn’t really known, I wish more people saw his work.

Iris Scott
Research
Finger painting isn’t really a technique associated with great effort and professionalism. Iris Scott takes finger painting to a new level. She uses oil paint on her canvases and goes through great detail. You can even see all of her marks that she made swiping across the canvas. Her color scheme contrasts with each other, but unifies the project all together.
The story behind this artist’s discovery of her natural talent begins with just a little bit of laziness. Iris traveled to Taiwan and lived there for a year after college. One hot day, she wanted to paint a couple of bright yellow flowers that she saw, but all of her brushes were tinted a dark blue. She was too weary and lazy to wash her brushes so she settled on using her fingers. After finishing, she was intrigued by the overall outcome. Iris found her own new way of art and to this day hasn’t used a brush since.
Response
I first came across her work on a website that spoke greatly about an artist that only used her fingers. I really liked the works that were shown and looked her up. Iris Scott’s website shows most of her paintings for sale. They range from $99 to $6,500, which isn’t that great compared to other artists, but considering the fact that you are doing the thing you enjoy the most while making money is pretty enjoyable. She has many different categories. For example, underwater, animals, and floral. She has her own category for shaking wet dogs, which is my favorite. You can clearly see the water droplets that are thrown in a circular motion of the dog. I like her technique of using more than one finger at a time and making wavy lines. I think her works are very successful and give a calm and nostalgic feeling.

Erik Otto
Research
Erik Otto was born in the San Francisco Bay Area and has worked as a professional artist for over ten years. Otto has a deep interest in exploring different creative styles. He spends his time painting and designing. Otto blends his explored styles into a distinct production. His work shows the fine line between where the norm is ruptured and broken.
Response
Erik Otto does many different types of artwork. From small paintings to murals on wooden sculptures and working with neon and lights. His paintings look loose yet unified and tied together. He moves between abstract and design. Otto uses shapes in many of his works. He makes them come to life and pop out of the painting to seem 3D. The titles of his artworks are also unique. They have a very calm and loose feeling. I think his work is very successful. I would definitely buy a piece from him.

Ad Reinhardt
Research
Adolph Dietrich Friedrich Reinhardt is an artist, writer, and educator. He was born on December 24, 1913 in New York and spent his whole life there. Reinhardt had a broad art education, going to the NYU Institute of Fine Arts. He later became a teacher himself, He taught and lectured about art history at the Brooklyn College. He also acquired a job in a newspaper as an artist and reporter, making cartoons. Reinhardt was frequently identified with the Abstract Expressionists; however, rejected the movement’s expressionism later to be rejected by his associates. He was a part of the Hard-Edge Painting Movement with his well-known red and gray, untitled painting. Reinhardt had a considerable influence on monochrome painting, conceptual art, and minimal art. He was later crowned as prophet by minimalists. Reinhardt mostly produced monochromatic, geometric paintings and gradually began to use less and less amounts of color. Finally, accumulating to his infamous black paintings. Reinhardt’s black paintings were known as his most prominent works of art. He saw them as “free” ”unmarketable” and “negative.” These dark paintings were one of his very last as he dies at the age of 53 on August 30, 1967.
Response
Ad Reinhardt’s works are very minimalistic and simple. Most of his paintings are monochromatic and his brush strokes tend to be swift and fast. I do have a taste for Reinhardt’s work and I find it fascinating that his whole life revolved around art. A personal favorite of Reinhardt for me is his black paintings. I find it amusing that someone can walk into a gallery just to find an array of black canvases on the walls that are of great value. I see them as a dark way of expressing oneself; however, I can’t say that I understand why they are so popular other than the fact that the idea is strange. His other works differ from one another. While some are just a pattern of brush strokes, another set would be a collection of organic and geometric shapes. Reinhardt’s works aren’t as easy as one would think in the beginning.

Reuben Rude
Research
Reuben Rude has been in countless shows and galleries. He has a unique story of rising to become an artist, but which artist doesn’t? Reuben was born in San Francisco and lived in the woods with his parents. He grew up without modern technology and this forced him to read and draw every minute of every day. When he grew up he attended the Academy of Art University. Rude has a reputation of being quite a delinquent. He hung around skateboarders and graffiti artists. His first paying career as an artist was given to him by Steve Oliff, a comic colorist from his hometown. Rude now lives in San Francisco with his wife and two daughters. He makes a living as a commercial artist, designing posters and paintings. His work has been showcased in many places including the Philippines. He has currently taken an interest in making furniture art with one of his friends. An artist is Rude first, currently only, and hopefully last job.
Response
Reuben Rude has a very unique style of art. I interpret it as more of a mix of urban and commercial styles. His color schemes are a jumble of bright colors on pale, usually dark colors. Almost all of his works show the same cloud-like shapes, drip painting, and nature. Rude showcases many trees and birds. I enjoy his work and find that each has its own message that it’s trying to portray. Looking at Rude’s work, I would think that he is a pessimistic and lonely person. However, he seems to be successful and content with his life. Looking through his sketchbook, I find Rude to be one of the most intriguing artists I’ve ever come across.
